THE PERFECT PLACE TO GROW CHERRIES

Why We Chose Cromwell

Cromwell is Central Otago’s cherry capital, offering stunning landscapes, a relaxed lifestyle, and easy access to two of New Zealand’s most iconic towns. The ideal place to settle down with our kids and start an electric revolution!

FIVE PREMIUM VARIETIES

The cherries we grow

Rainier

Rainier

Harvest: Late December Rainiers are the show-stoppers. Their golden-yellow skin with a soft red blush makes them as beautiful as they are delicious. This premium variety has a short harvest window, delicate skin, and a sweet, juicy flavour with subtle floral and tropical notes. Best enjoyed fresh as a snack or in fruit salads. Because they're more delicate than dark cherries, we don't recommend shipping them to rural addresses.

Lapins

Lapins

Harvest: Late December – Early January Lapin cherries are known for their deep red colour, large size, and crisp, juicy bite. Grown in Central Otago, our trees produce some of the biggest, sweetest cherries around, with a perfect balance of sweetness and acidity. They're delicious fresh, pair beautifully with cheese or chocolate, and are also great for jams, chutneys, and liqueurs. They're the kind of cherry that makes you stop mid-bite and think, that's a good cherry.

Kootenay

Kootenay

Harvest: Early – Mid January Kootenay cherries are similar to Lapins but ripen a little later, giving them an even firmer bite and a rich, deep burgundy colour. Large, crisp, and full of flavour, they offer a perfect balance of sweetness and intensity. They're delicious fresh and also ideal for baking, smoothies, and cherry-infused cocktails.

Sweetheart

Sweetheart

Harvest: Mid January Sweetheart cherries are big, bright, and packed with sweetness. Their distinctive heart shape, vibrant red colour, and firm, juicy bite make them perfect for eating fresh by the handful. They also keep well after picking and are great in fruit salads, baking, or adding a burst of flavour to summer desserts.

Sentennial

Sentennial

Harvest: Late January Sentennial cherries are the last to ripen each season, giving them extra time on the tree to develop a rich, concentrated sweetness. With their ruby-red colour, firm texture, and juicy bite, they're a favourite for premium cherry lovers. We work closely with 45 South to grow exceptional Sentennials that are perfect fresh and a delicious way to finish the cherry season.

When Do We Harvest?

THE BEST SEASON FOR HARVEST

When Do We Harvest?

Cherries are usually harvested in Cromwell from late December to January. We handpick all our fruit to ensure only the ripest cherries are chosen. After harvesting, the cherries are quickly cooled and carefully packed to avoid bruising.

FROM OUR ORCHARD TO YOUR DOOR

How Delivery Works

Hand-picked at harvest

We hand-pick only the best cherries at harvest and pack them fresh at our orchard for every order.

Sent fresh, NZ-wide

We send cherries anywhere in New Zealand, straight to your door. Our aim is to send your cherries when they are at their absolute best, right in their harvest window.

A note on rural addresses

To ensure the best quality, we don’t currently send cherries to far North Island rural addresses or recommend rural delivery for our delicate Rainier cherries.

Fresh cherry questions

When can I buy fresh cherries?

Our cherries are harvested from late December through late January. Boxes usually open for ordering in the weeks before Christmas and sell out quickly. Join the waitlist above and we’ll email you the moment they go on sale.

What sizes do the boxes come in?

Cherries are sold in 2kg boxes, and in 12kg cases made up of six 2kg boxes. Both come in red and white varieties. Pricing is confirmed each season once we know the harvest.

What’s the difference between red and white cherries?

White cherries — our Rainiers — have golden-yellow skin with a red blush, and a sweeter, more delicate flavour with floral notes. Red varieties like Lapins, Kootenay, Sweetheart and Sentennial are deeper in colour with a firmer, crisper bite.

Do you deliver anywhere in New Zealand?

We send cherries NZ-wide, straight from the orchard. We don’t currently deliver to far North Island rural addresses, and we don’t recommend rural delivery for our delicate Rainier cherries.

Where are your cherries grown?

At Forest Lodge Orchard, 90 Rush Lane, Mount Pisa — about ten minutes from Cromwell in Central Otago. Cromwell’s hot days, cool nights and rich soils are what make the region New Zealand’s best-known cherry-growing area.

Can I visit the orchard?

Yes. We run guided experiences at the orchard year-round, where you can see the fully electric machinery fleet up close. Cherries aren’t available to pick outside the harvest window, but the orchard is worth seeing any time of year.
