Adopt a Tree FAQ

What are the differences between the varieties?

We grow five different cherry varieties on our orchard. One white cherry (Rainier) and four red cherries (Lapins, Kootenay, Sweetheart & Sentennial). Please refer to our Cherry Varieties page which explains each variety in more detail โ€” note each has a slightly different harvest window.

Do you have a pre-Christmas variety?

Our White Cherry (Rainier) is our late December variety which has a small ripening window and is most affected by weather. We expect to harvest Rainier just before Christmas and just before New Year's. Lapins ripen next, just before New Year's and through the first week of January.

Can I change the address for my cherry delivery?

Absolutely, no problem. Please log into your Tree Dashboard, go to 'Update my Details' and update to the delivery address that you want your Cherries sent to. You are able to change your Delivery Address up to 5 days before your delivery date.

When can I expect my cherries?

We have indicated next to each Cherry Variety its rough harvest timing, being late Dec, early Jan, Mid Jan or Late Jan. The timing of when our Cherry varieties ripen and become ready to harvest is very much weather dependent. Just prior to harvest, we will send out a reminder to double check your delivery window dates and delivery address.

Can I visit my adopted tree?

Yes, absolutely! Please email us at cherries@forestlodge.nz to arrange a day and time. Visits are usually easiest between 9.30amโ€“2.30pm, Mondayโ€“Friday.

How long is a 'harvest' that I am adopting for?

A harvest season runs from 1st February to 31st January each year. If you adopt a tree in July, you will receive updates on your tree from July to January the following year, when your cherries arrive.

Can I adopt a tree as a gift for someone else?

Absolutely โ€” tree adoptions are very popular as gifts. At the checkout tick the box that says 'I am purchasing this as a gift'. You'll receive a gift certificate to pass on, and the recipient claims their tree with the unique code on the certificate.

Do you send to rural addresses?

Yes, though we're not currently sending to far North Island rural addresses in summer heat. We recommend our delicate White Cherry (Rainier) is not sent to rural addresses. Where possible, a nearby non-rural address is encouraged.
