Mike Casey and his wife Rebecca started a cherry orchard in Central Otago, New Zealand, with the goal of producing fruit using 100% renewable energy to combat climate change. Drawing from his career in software technology, Mike aimed to eliminate fossil fuel use in their orchard. They bought land near Cromwell and set up Forest Lodge Orchard, using solar panels to power electric irrigation pumps and modifying equipment to reduce carbon emissions. Mike's commitment to renewable energy and low-carbon food production has made him a notable figure in the adoption of electric machinery in horticulture.
